Phanfare Blog: Canon: This is the camera I want

What about a movie clip mode? I know DSLR's usually can't do this because the mirror is in the way of the sensor, but in the camera you describe, the only remaining problem might be the heat which that jumbo sensor would generate during a video grab. Maybe they should put a second sensor in just for movie mode, similar to the recent "Live Preview" offered on Sony's (I think) newer DSLRs.

Well, I think I have a camera that (within the realms of reality and physical constraints) matches your description very well.

And I found it after doing a lot of research looking for exactly what you describe. In fact, I also wanted a powerful zoom, and a 28mm wide lens for a wider view to boot.

AND... it had to fit in my trousers pocket!

    So here it is:

Old post, I know, but hey, Sigma finally came out with your dream camera, only they screwed it up:

*Sigh*. The G10 is out, cramming 14MP into a stupidly tiny 7.6mm x 5.32mm (1/1.7") sensor. Compare to the APS-C sensor in a Canon Digital Rebel: 25.1 × 16.7 mm. Ah, here's a great comparison:
